Presented as part of I've Only Known My Own, this project exists as the action-based retelling of the body art project Of All the Watery Bodies, I Only Know my Own, which was produced autonomously from July 2013- July 2014. The original work consisted of the artist getting bloodlines tattooed monthly around each of her legs. Executed on each full moon over a one-year period, the height of the lines referenced the volume of blood in her body; marking the top of the fluid, were it to pool inside her as she stood. This work addresses constructed and embodied notions of fertility, feminine ritual, death, and transcendence.
Of All the Watery Bodies, I Only Know my Own will be re-activated via an intervention into the exhibited photographs of twelve of the thirteen full moons that accompanied the original bloodlines. The final moon will return the work to the artist’s body in the form of a new bloodline tattoo executed live in the gallery space.
Performance will begin at sunset [approximately 7:45pm]
